Preferred Choice Restoration provides asbestos testing and remediation for homes and businesses across the Phoenix metro area. In buildings constructed in 1980 or earlier, drywall, ceiling texture, flooring, and insulation can contain asbestos, and water damage repairs, fire restoration, and remodeling often require cutting into those materials. We test them before any work begins, and if they test positive, our crew safely removes them so the rebuild can move forward.
Asbestos in older materials is only a concern once repairs cut into them, so our work covers every stage of the project: testing before demolition, safe removal during it, and rebuilding once it’s done.

From Asbestos Testing to Safe Removal
01
Tell us about the damage or the remodel you have in mind, and we’ll schedule a free on-site visit to identify which materials the work will disturb.
02
We take a small sample of each material the work will disturb and send it to a lab for testing. When the results come back, we explain which materials need to be removed before repairs begin.
03
We seal off the work area, and our crew removes the materials that tested positive. Once they’re out, we clean the area thoroughly before the containment comes down.
04
Our construction team replaces the removed drywall, ceiling texture, or flooring with new materials, so your repair or remodel can move forward. If insurance is involved, we send the estimate directly to your adjuster.

Asbestos Testing and Remediation FAQs
A lab test is the only way to know for sure. Material with asbestos in it looks the same as material without it, unless the product is labeled. We can test anything in your property you’re unsure about.
We recommend leaving the sampling to us. Taking a sample means cutting a piece out of the material, and it has to be done carefully so fibers stay out of the air. We take the samples ourselves, so no one at your property has to cut into anything.
No. Material in good condition that your repair or remodel won’t disturb is usually best left where it is, and some damaged material can be sealed instead of removed. Removal is for material the work will cut into or tear out, or material too damaged to seal. We’ll recommend what makes sense for each material based on its condition and the work you have planned.
The work area is closed off with plastic sheeting before anything is disturbed, and the heating and cooling are shut off so moving air doesn’t carry dust into other rooms. The material is kept wet and taken out in large pieces rather than broken up, and the area is cleaned with wet wipes and HEPA vacuums. Our crew handles the containment and cleanup, so none of it falls on you.
It’s best to leave it in place until it’s been tested. The texture on older ceilings can contain asbestos, and pulling down a wet, sagging section can release fibers into the room. Keep everyone out from under it, and once we’ve tested it, we’ll plan the cleanup and repairs around the results.
In many cases, yes. When the old floor is in good shape, new flooring can go right over it. Old vinyl tile, sheet vinyl backing, and the adhesive under them can contain asbestos, so they shouldn’t be sanded or scraped up. If covering works for your floor, we can lay the new flooring on top.
