When a home or business in the Phoenix metro area needs repairs after water, fire, or smoke damage, Preferred Choice Restoration can pack up the belongings inside and move them off the property to protect them while the work is done. This is called a pack-out. Our contents team inventories each item, cleans anything the damage reached, and keeps everything in storage until it’s ready to return to your property.
A pack-out gets your belongings out of the way of the damage and the repairs, and it takes the packing off your hands.

From Packing and Inventory to Safe Storage
01
We look at each affected room with you to see which belongings were damaged and decide together what needs to be packed out.
02
Our crew packs your belongings and records each item on an inventory before it leaves the property.
03
At our facility, we clean the items that were damaged and store them with everything else we packed.
04
Once repairs are finished, we deliver your belongings back to the property, check each item against the inventory, and set everything where you had it.
Why Preferred Choice Restoration
More than 19,000 Phoenix-area customers have hired us since 2013, and the Better Business Bureau has rated us A+ since 2014, so you know who you’re trusting with your belongings.
We work directly with all major insurance carriers and share the pack-out inventory with your adjuster, so your contents claim starts with a list of every item we packed.
Wet or smoke-damaged belongings need more care than an ordinary move, so they’re packed, cleaned, and stored by our own contents team instead of a moving company.
We do the estimate at your property, so we can see each room and plan the pack-out around the rest of the repairs.

Most pack-outs happen because of a bigger job at the property, like drying out a flooded room or rebuilding after a fire.
We store the belongings that have to leave a damaged property during the repairs and clean the ones that need it.
A burst pipe or flood can soak a property well past what you can see, and our crews dry the structure so the repairs can start.

Contents Pack-Out FAQs
Only set aside the things you’ll need day to day and anything that would be hard to replace, like ID, medications, eyeglasses, important papers, cash, jewelry, family photos, and phone chargers. Our crew packs everything else, including what’s inside drawers, closets, and cabinets, so you can leave them as they are.
We pack only what needs to leave, which is usually everything in the rooms being repaired. Belongings in rooms the damage didn’t reach can often stay where they are. After a fire or flood that affected most of the property, a pack-out can include nearly everything you own.
That comes down to how much of the property has to be rebuilt. A pack-out after a leak in one bathroom usually wraps up much sooner than one after a fire that spread through the whole property.
Most belongings with a hard, sealed surface can be cleaned and kept. Solid wood furniture usually can be too, though some pieces need regluing or refinishing afterward. Upholstered furniture, mattresses, and pillows that soaked up floodwater usually have to go, because the padding and filling can’t dry fast enough to stop mildew. We clean and dry the pieces that can be saved.
Yes, but you don’t have to keep them yourself. Insurers usually want to inspect damaged belongings, or at least see them documented, before anything is thrown away, so we pack them out with everything else, list them on the inventory, and hold them in storage until your adjuster has seen them or says they can go.
